One of the authors that Rhonda drew material from for The Secret was Charles F. Haanel. I wish to spend this article discussing this quote from one of his works:
We must BE before we can DO, and we can DO only to the extent which we ARE, and what we ARE depends on what we THINK.
Put in another form: THINK --> BE/ARE --> DO. Or, "What we BE is what we ARE".
Got it?
I doubt it.
Hardly anyone has really figured this one out. WE are all mostly still believing that the process is DO, HAVE, BE; As in what you do determines your results, which determines what you have, and then what you have or what you have accomplished already says who you are.
It says we are defined by our actions, which seems true at first glance, but the way it should be is that our actions are defined by us . . .
Based on who we are.
Yes, that is the great issue we all face . . . we spend all our time on DO without any pause for THINK. Perhaps we have all been reading the book: Do and Grow Rich?
Certainly not. The book is THINK and Grow Rich, by Napolean Hill, 1937.
Wallace Wattles offers what might be considered a cynical viewpoint on this, but he basically says that men will endure all kinds of hardships, walk miles and miles through the snow up hill both ways, and basically do everything possible to stop himself from having to exercise some mental energy, to stop himself from having to think.
You could argue that this is a good thing. Someone needs to work on the factory floor. There are thousands of mindless jobs out there that someone needs to do.
But it does not have to be you!
So yes, we need to think. But we need to think in terms of what we are really wanting, and what we are really wanting will come to us via what we are creating.
And 999 times out of a 1000, you will not get to be that creative while working for someone else.
No, this needs to be YOUR creation, not someone else's.
Keep your day job (at first); but go to work immediately thinking about what you would love to create. It could be an eBook, a business, a business system. Perhaps a beautiful painting or video. Perhaps a beautiful or a rockin' song. Not sure what to do?
What are your talents?
So everyone has at least one talent. We will call yours (your first one) talent X.
So takes some time to BE (in your mind) someone who serves others and provides value by being an X'er. An X'er is someone who serves the public with talent X.
Put your thought behind How can I be a better X'er? How can I provide X value to more people than I currently reach? What can I create that is in the true spirit of X? How is the best way for me to get paid for sharing X with the world? How big will X business need to be before I can do it full time, because it is what I love to do?
A quick word for any who believe that you should hobby your X talent or that it is more spiritual to share your X talent without getting paid for it. I know you were taught this by your parents or you learned it at church. I do not wish to disagree with your parents or your church; but please consider the following . . .
1. And by the sweat of your face you will eat your bread all the days of your life; for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return. Yes the Lord did say this to Adam. ----- We are meant to be paid for our work that provides value to others. We are not meant to volunteer all of our time for free.
2. Being paid for what you are creating will not stop you from volunteering your time for free to other worthy causes. In fact when your creation gets big enough and it can be safely be run by others on the payroll, you will have a lot more time to volunteer for worthy causes, as well as the money to do it!
3. The happiest folks are those who make their living doing what they love. If you are not ever paid for doing what you love, you will never be able to spend that much time doing it!
4. In conclusion, you must be paid for your creation, or you will have difficulty finding the time to build it bigger. The "magic of life" is not for the hobbyest.
So here is what will unavoidably happen as you put thought energy into how to be an X'er:
-- You will start to get inspiration about actions to take. You actions will be marketing actions and technical actions. At first, and always, the marketing actions are most important.
-- Your continued thought and mental energy will put the Law of Attraction to work for you. You will attract the money, the people, the books, the mentor, or whatever else it is that you need in order to build your X creation.
-- Your actions will set up business systems that allow you to get paid for providing value to others. Once the initial system is set up, then your (inspired) actions will be on how to market the X to a wider audience, and how to train others to help you with X and provide even more value to even more people.
So unlearn the DO -- HAVE -- BE mentality, it may have got you to where you are today, but it will not likely get you to the next great amazement.
Learn THINK -- BE/ARE -- DO.
You get to decide what you will be with your own thoughts. The actions will follow and they will be inspired.
WAIT for the inspiration, but do not stop the mental exercise while waiting. Put the thought energy to work, detach from the HOW, and wait for the inspiration.
You do that and you will create something that changes your life, and improves the life of so many others.

The Secret and Network Marketing ??
Did I scare you off already?
Well, to be fair, they do not once mention network marketing in the movie The Secret; so why am I writing about it here?
Well, quite frankly, because I have my wife's network marketing company to thank for the fact that I was introduced to the movie the Secret the very month it was released back in March of 2006. I got the see the original edition with Esther Hicks.
And she rocked.
Had I not been introduced to the movie through that channel, then it is very possible that I would not have heard of it to this day, because I was not looking for it, and I was not travelling around in circles where anyone was interested in it.
I have had a lot of interesting insights come to me as a result of helping my wife out with her Network marketing business. The training meetings that I have attended with her were outstanding, and very inexpensive and sometimes completely free of charge. Training on how to think like a business person, training on how to better relate to others. Training on how to put your mind to work in helping you reach your goals.
I have since priced these kinds of trainings on the open market outside of a Network Marketing company. You could expect to pay thousands of dollars.
So, if nothing else, the network marketing industry is the greatest training secret known to man.
I have a clear understanding of why some people do not like it. Prior to my wife's starting a business, I had been chased, hunted and almost killed twice by people from other network marketing companies. I understand the bad experiences that people have had, because I have had them too.
In fact I still am not 100% positive in my own belief that a network marketing business is something that that many people would want to do.
And this is why my own attempt in the business resulted in me recruiting exactly zero people.
But my wife was able to find a groove, and has built from nothing a business that does 40,000 to 60,000.00 a month in business. I am so proud of her. She drives the company car, which is the White Mercedes.
So what does the secret have to do with all of this? Well let me tell you a little story of how my wife managed to reach the Mercedes driving level of her company:
Mercedes drivers generally do $40,000.00 a month or better in the business. My wife was sitting at the management level right below that, the level between $10,000 and $40,000 dollars for several months, fluctuating in that range. Making a decent four digit income, but not driving the car.
The one day, specifically Nov 1, 2005, she decided that she was going to qualify for the next level, the car level, in the next two months finishing by December 31. She made the decision, and then worked the next two months of her business as if it were true.
This is all that I can tell that she did any differently. I was watching her the whole time. She did not change her presentation system. She did not change her prospecting system. She did not change anything at all that I could see on the outside.
But she made a significant change in what she was thinking. And she did not doubt, and also I did not detect any fear that she would not make it.
Well you might guess what happened. That November she doubled her volume from the month before, putting her over the $40,000 mark. She did finish by December 31, and we picked out and bought her White Mercedes on Jan 2, 2006.
All of this was about three months before the movie came out.
When we saw it my wife said Yes! That is exactly what I did!
So here is another secret I have learned about the network marketing business that was very interesting, and which for me explains why several people have such a hard time with it.
The business is 10% about what you are doing, and 90% about what you are thinking and believing.
Yes, that's right, only 10% about what you are doing. Compare that to your typical work for someone else job which is 90-100% about what you are doing, and 10% or less about what you are thinking. The worst one's of all are the ones where they specifically tell you that they do not want you doing any thinking. Yes I once had one of those jobs.
So people struggle in the business because they spend 100% of their time trying to improve their actions, which is 10% of the business. At the same time, people who get their minds right build massive organizations and paychecks and seem to put in very little physical effort. People just flock to them.
If you want to see a great example of what can happen when you get you mind right, go talk to anyone who is a mega-success in Network Marketing. Amazing!
So the movie The Secret is the coaching and the instruction of what you want to do with your mind.
And the Network Marketing business in one way (among others) to test out what you have learned in a real world environment.
If you are brave enough, I say try it. You cannot possibly do worse than I did, and yet I see my experience as a great positive because of all of the things I learned, mostly about myself.
And *that* is the whole point of the game.

Think and Speak Your Way to Prosperity
In my mind, the entire purpose of the movie The Secret is to help us to begin to think a little differently about a few things in our lives; and the movie also talks about how adding speaking to that increases its power.
Close to 98% of us grow up learning and especially hearing lack thinking most of the time. If we did not hear it from our own parents, then we heard it from several other sources. Someone who grew up without all of this is fortunate indeed.
For the rest of us, there are some things that we need to get clear in our mind in order to overcome the lack thinking, and so that we may begin the prosperity speaking. The prosperity that we seek will follow only after we have learned the language of prosperity and spoken it for a while. We will not be able to speak it until we get it entrenched into our thoughts.
1. While you may have been a victim in the past, you now realize that you have more control of your circumstances then you ever thought possible, and that you have a clear choice in any matter as to whether you will be a victim. At first even if you still feel like a victim of something you will not add power to it by speaking or complaining about it!
2. You now understand clearly that we will obtain prosperity through creation, not competition. You will abandon all the false ideas that someone else has to lose for you to win. You must completely destroy within your own mind any idea that some dishonesty will be required on your part in order to succeed. It is the competition mindset that says that we must gain advantage over others in order to win; you now know that this is false doctrine.
3. As a follow up to the last item, you now understand that your prosperity comes from helping others find their prosperity, and that it comes quicker as you help more people.
4. You understand clearly that you are blessed with a talent of some kind that will allow you to be in the top 5% of your industry when you use it. How do you know what your talent is? You will find it by doing these three words: Follow Your Bliss. Spend you mental effort setting up a way for you to get paid for doing what you most love to do, and make sure that you get paid more for it as you help more people with it. Once this is done, then you are set up to succeed. Since it is hard to think prosperity if basic needs are not met, do not quit your current income until your new venture(s) have at least doubled it.
5. Do what you can to be around other people who speak prosperity. The group around the office water cooler may not be the best choice. If you do not have any good ideas as to how to accomplish this, I will give you one: Go attend a meeting put on by any Direct Sales/Network Marketing Company. You do not have to join the company to go. There will be people there who think and speak prosperity.
Sound like a lot to do? Does this sound hard? Here is what I think is hard: Forcing ourselves to live an unremarkable life takes a lot of mental effort! Some of us are just so used to it now that we no longer perceive the effort. Our soul longs for the magic of life, and we will surprise ourselves with what happens when we start moving in the right direction!
Last thought: Time will be required, and there will be some number of failures along the way. When you see them you will know them for the sign that they are, which is the sign that you are on the right path. How can we ever learn anything if we never fail? The answer is that we cannot, and if we never learn anything then our life cannot change.
I end with a recent Note From The Universe (Mike Dooley, tut.com): Fear, Joseph, can only be experienced when one pretends they're not in control.
I could say the same thing for doubt. Successful people know how to replace doubt and fear with love.

The Power in What You Behold
Even though Esther Hicks does not appear in the current version of The Secret, she was the main teacher in the original version and most of the teachings about the exact mechanics of the Law of Attraction were done by her. Whether you believe in that whole channeling thing or not, what she teaches is powerful.
I saw this bit posted recently from a workshop that Esther did in North Carolina in 2004. It concerns the healing powers of the Saviour:
Jesus is said to have been a powerful healer. And the reason that he was is because when he looked at you, no matter what your current temporary state of physical condition, he
did not allow himself to behold it, instead--he saw you as he knows you to be.
And because he saw you in your wellness, and he saw you that way so powerfully, your illness could not abide in his vibration. There just wasn't a place for it there.

I have posted before about how I no longer give any energy to thoughts of me being sick, even if I feel the initial symptoms of it. I just completely ignore it and move on. I am not sure that I am really seeing myself healthy, but I am doing everything possible to avoid seeing myself sick.
Now I wonder what power and effect it has when I look at someone else? Do I see them as being healthy and well or do I see them as being sick? How much will it help them if I see them as being healthy and well? I am going to have to experiment on this some and I will report back later what I find.
Also I will be posting soon about the reality that we see all around us. Read this for a sense of what I will post about.

The Law of Attraction and Giving Directions
I am writing about cases where the Law of Attraction, or more specifically knowing about it, has made my life easier.
Recently my wife was flying in to the Houston Airport and I needed to give her directions on how to board the right parking bus to find the car I had left for her. There is a bus with a small blue sign and a bus with a small red sign, and she needed to take the one with the red sign.
Prior to watching The Secret , I would have told her to get on the Red bus but not get on the Blue bus. Invariably what would later happen would be when the time came she would be confused, because I had said both red AND blue, and she could not remember which was which. This is an example if we put what we do not want (blue bus) next to what we do want (red bus).
But since I had seen the Secret, I remembered to focus on only what I did want, and so I told her to take the Red bus and said nothing at all about the blue bus. Having those instructions, my wife found the car without any trouble whatsoever. When she saw the blue bus, she knew immediately that it was wrong because I had not even mentioned it, and so she found the red one.
I used to be a good one for giving people confusing instructions because I would tell them what I did want them to do followed by what I did not want them to do. No wonder people got confused. Now I just omit the do not want part. I also now try to phrase everything in terms of what they should do, and not necessarily what they should not do. This has helped as well, because it puts the focus on all the right things.
If you have not seen The Secret, its really cool! I strongly recommend it.

The Law of Attraction and the Holocaust
Many of the folks who do not like the movie The Secret or the idea of the Law of Attraction point to the Holocaust or Sept 11th or some other terrible event and then simply ask: So did these people attract that to themselves by what they were thinking?
Its a really tough question, but I think it is born out of the (incorrect) idea that the Law of Attraction is only about conscious thought. The sub-conscious mind plays a role as well, and that needs to be taken into account.
What is the sub-conscious mind attracting? It is attracting according to the programs that it is running. What programs is it running? Well it is running the programs that were put into it as it was living its life, from the time it was contained within a little child on up.
In most cases it is running a lot of programs that were deposited there by the parents. Some programs were deposited by school teachers or friends. Basically anything we heard that we believed began to become a program, and as we continued to hear and believe what we were hearing then that program got stronger.
So I think it would be difficult in the general sense to answer the original question, but if we can ask a specific individual we may be able to learn what they knew or what they feared that might have brought these kinds of circumstances their way. One thing that seems clear to me in the Law of Attraction is that we do tend to attract that which we love, and also that which we fear.
In As A Man Thinketh, James Allen says that it is those who live in fear of disease are the ones who get it: anxiety quickly demoralizes the whole body and leaves it open to the entrance of disease. This could help to answer the corrollary question which is do the cancer sufferers attract the cancel to themself. Well I agree that very few if any would attract it by conscious thought, but when we consider who might fear it or what the sub-conscious is doing then I can see ways for it to be attracted independent of conscious thought.
Something to think about.
Its a really tough question, but I think it is born out of the (incorrect) idea that the Law of Attraction is only about conscious thought. The sub-conscious mind plays a role as well, and that needs to be taken into account.
What is the sub-conscious mind attracting? It is attracting according to the programs that it is running. What programs is it running? Well it is running the programs that were put into it as it was living its life, from the time it was contained within a little child on up.
In most cases it is running a lot of programs that were deposited there by the parents. Some programs were deposited by school teachers or friends. Basically anything we heard that we believed began to become a program, and as we continued to hear and believe what we were hearing then that program got stronger.
So I think it would be difficult in the general sense to answer the original question, but if we can ask a specific individual we may be able to learn what they knew or what they feared that might have brought these kinds of circumstances their way. One thing that seems clear to me in the Law of Attraction is that we do tend to attract that which we love, and also that which we fear.
In As A Man Thinketh, James Allen says that it is those who live in fear of disease are the ones who get it: anxiety quickly demoralizes the whole body and leaves it open to the entrance of disease. This could help to answer the corrollary question which is do the cancer sufferers attract the cancel to themself. Well I agree that very few if any would attract it by conscious thought, but when we consider who might fear it or what the sub-conscious is doing then I can see ways for it to be attracted independent of conscious thought.
