This question does not apply so much to the currently available book and Extended Edition of The Secret (where Esther Hicks was removed), but those like me who enjoyed the original you may be as curious about this question as I have been.
The Abraham entities describe themself as a group of "non-physical" entities. I read that to mean spirits. This is saying that they are in the same form now as we were in prior to coming to this Earth, meaning spirit form. Those who have yet to come to this Earth, and yet are slated to come, exist in spirit form right now.
So this is the first possibility for the Abraham entities, that they are spirits that are slated to come to this earth (and receive physical bodies) but they have not come yet.
I am not as much of an expert on the Teachings of Abraham as some others, but I have read a good amount of their writings and have watched the mailing lists for more than a year now, so I feel I have a pretty good pulse on what is going on.
Based on what I have seen and heard them say, I do not believe them to be part of this group. They have never spoken in any way suggesting that they would eventually have physical bodies themselves.
Another possibility is that they are not real at all, they are just an imagination of Esther Hicks that she uses to make a lot of money.
I do not really believe that this is the case either. While they essentially just ask one to be trusting that what they say is correct, I find their viewpoint to be consistent with what I imagine the viewpoint of a non-physical entity would be.
And we know that there ARE non-physical entities out there. The aforementioned spirits that have not been born yet (which group may not be to Earth yet), the spirits of those who have passed on (who are here: The place called the Spirit World where we all go after death and before resurrection is here with us on Earth), and the other non-physicals are those one third of Heavenly Father's children who followed Lucifer's plan originally and who will never receive physical bodies).
So there is not 100% proof in my eyes, but I believe that these are real spirit beings that she is channeling.
So it could be that they are spirits of those who once lived on Earth but who have passed on. This would give them a great viewpoint to non-physical and physical, and the Abraham entities act like they understand both.
But they do not speak as if they ever had physical bodies themselves, at least not that I have seen. I do not believe that they are part of this group either.
So what does that leave?
First a little history, because you do not remember this, but you DID participate in it prior to your coming here to Earth.
There was a grand council in Heaven that we all attended prior to coming here. Two plans for the salvation of Heavenly Father's children were presented for us to vote upon. Plan number one was Heavenly Father's plan and it was championed by Jehovah Himself. In this plan there would be agency, or the freedom to choose. No one would be forced to accept Christ while living on Earth, they would have to do so of their own free will and choice. The plan provided that there would be a Saviour, so that mankind could be reclaimed from their sins as they repented and accepted Christ.
There was another plan presented, which plan was presented by Lucifer himself. In this plan, agency would be done away with; and all would essentially be forced to live the gospel and return to Father. Lucifer sought to destroy the agency of man. One third of the spirits present voted for Lucifer's plan and as a result they were cast out of Heaven with him and they were sent to Earth, but they will never receive physical bodies and thus their eternal progression is stopped.
It is from among this group that "legion" appeared in the New Testament. All evil spirits are part of this group. These spirits can, under certain conditions, possess physical bodies belonging to another. They can also be cast out of those bodies by the proper authority.
But to just make a blanket statement that all of them are bad may be a superficial judgement. The other two thirds that voted for Heavenly Father's plan have come or will come to Earth and receive bodies, and we know by history and the six o'clock news that all of these are not "good".
So just because a spirit is in the one third group does not prove that he is evil, but he/she certainly could be. What is clear is that you will not learn correct principles of the Gospel of Jesus Christ from this group, because they all rejected it so long ago. This group however would have the non-physical viewpoint and expertise in how the universe works, because they did not pass through the same veil of forgetfulness that we all did. They would know a lot more about "source energy", even if they were banished from the ultimate source.
But there could be some of them who are trying to be helpful, and they could be calling themselves Abraham.
So am I saying that Abraham is a group of evil spirits?
Not really, but I believe that the most likely group that they come from is the one third group. I could be wrong on this. But I will explain my thinking.
Here's why.
It's not so much what they say, but what they do not say that speaks volumes.
I have never once seen or heard them talk about or define God our Heavenly Father.
I have never once seen or heard them talk about the gospel or the Lord Jesus Christ.
I have never once seen or heard them talk about the Holy Ghost, who is also a personage of spirit like they say they are.
Combine all of that with the fact that since they did not pass through the veil like we did, they are in a position to know and they do know about all of these things.
And yet they say nothing. (Someone please correct me if I am wrong here). I have not seen them say anything at all about it.
The principles of the Law of Attraction that they teach are intriging and ring true to me. They are trying to get us in touch with great power within us that we do not even know we have. In general it seems that they are trying to be helpful. An interesting thing is that the teachings in the movie The Secret about gratitude were not taught by Abraham, but mostly by Lee Brower and Joe Vitale and James Ray.
So what am I trying to say here? Simply this . . .
I would recommend that one not treat the teachings of Abraham like they are a religion. I note that there seem to be many who follow these teachings with religious fervor.
If at any time one finds that something taught by Abraham (or especially something spouted by one of their followers) is in conflict with the revealed word of God in the Scriptures; I would recommend strongly that one choose the scriptures.
An example. The scriptures are very clear of how God feels about fornication and adultery, even if society is getting lax on it, the word of God has not changed. And yet I see posts from time to time on the Abraham discussion group (always from men), which are saying that if committing fornication and adultery "feel good" to you, they that is what you should do!
These men are wishful thinkers. Fornication and Adultery destroys families and brings nothing but misery and pain, no matter how much one lies to themself that it "feels good". It also leads to all kinds of other sins as people attempt to hide their wrong doings. In short both fornication and adultery lead to bondage, as does all other unrepented sin.
So do not stop going to church in favor of the Teachings of Abraham. There ARE things that you need to do while here to be saved, and you will not learn those things from Abraham. They will not teach you to repent. They will not teach that you must be baptized by proper authority.
Those who listen to the message must have the discernment to tell if what is being presented is in harmony with the scriptures.
Those who are unable to discern should avoid the message, because it is not worth the consequences of sin.
They are right about the Universe being filled with Love, but it does seem funny to me that they do not identify the SOURCE of that love, which source is God.

The Law of Attracton and Agency
Given the thought that we attract to us everything that happens to us, many wonder about those who are victims of crime or terrorism or some other horrible thing. Certainly these victims have not attracted such terrible experiences to themselves, the critics say. The Book and DVD The Secret do not delve into this deeply.
I wish to address this idea. Let's start with why these types of horrible things happen in the first place. God could certainly stop them, (and in some very rare cases He has), but generally men are allowed to rampage and pillage and destroy without God's interference. The reason why can be summed up in one word, and the word is agency.
Agency is not a word to be taken lightly. It means that men and women are free to choose their own actions, free from divine interference. Also there are both good and evil influences in the world, so that people could be enticed by both sides, and then make their own decision. We take agency as a given, but it was not as easy to come by as most of us think.
Because of agency, there will be those who choose to hurt others. Once they have made that decision within themselves, then the only question becomes who? Well in the majority of cases the who will be someone that they know. We have all heard about random acts of violence on the news, but that is not the majority case.
In As A Man Thinketh, James Allen says that men attract that which they love, and also that which they fear; not generally that which they want. While it would be necessary in each specific case to do detailed interviews with victims to test this theory, it is my belief that what will be found is that there was a fear somewhere in the victim that was realized by the actions of the aggressor. The Law of attraction will take the aggression offered by the offender and match it with someone who is attracting that like energy through fear or some other program that they are running sub-consciously.
So I would agree that people generally do not consciously attract crimes upon themselves; but they end up attracting them anyway because of specific fears or because of programs that are running subconsciously that were programmed when they were younger. Does this give any new insight on the wisdom of watching the 10:00 news every night? With the advent of the Internet and Global news, every horrible thing that happens among a population of more than 6 billion people is reported worldwide. What is never reported though is the extremely small percentage of the total world population that is affected.
Do not let these types of things control any of your thinking.

The Law of Attraction and the Holocaust
Many of the folks who do not like the movie The Secret or the idea of the Law of Attraction point to the Holocaust or Sept 11th or some other terrible event and then simply ask: So did these people attract that to themselves by what they were thinking?
Its a really tough question, but I think it is born out of the (incorrect) idea that the Law of Attraction is only about conscious thought. The sub-conscious mind plays a role as well, and that needs to be taken into account.
What is the sub-conscious mind attracting? It is attracting according to the programs that it is running. What programs is it running? Well it is running the programs that were put into it as it was living its life, from the time it was contained within a little child on up.
In most cases it is running a lot of programs that were deposited there by the parents. Some programs were deposited by school teachers or friends. Basically anything we heard that we believed began to become a program, and as we continued to hear and believe what we were hearing then that program got stronger.
So I think it would be difficult in the general sense to answer the original question, but if we can ask a specific individual we may be able to learn what they knew or what they feared that might have brought these kinds of circumstances their way. One thing that seems clear to me in the Law of Attraction is that we do tend to attract that which we love, and also that which we fear.
In As A Man Thinketh, James Allen says that it is those who live in fear of disease are the ones who get it: anxiety quickly demoralizes the whole body and leaves it open to the entrance of disease. This could help to answer the corrollary question which is do the cancer sufferers attract the cancel to themself. Well I agree that very few if any would attract it by conscious thought, but when we consider who might fear it or what the sub-conscious is doing then I can see ways for it to be attracted independent of conscious thought.
Something to think about.
